Fleeting Love

Like a weary wanderer, floating through time and space
I rarely spend more than a moment in any single place
What I might find while on my travels, challenges mind and soul
I'm seeking out a companion for an evening stroll

Hand in hand, heart to heart, we wander side by side
Encountering many wonders and never breaking stride
And yet, it seems, it always ends with me just by myself
I wonder sometimes if I should just put my heart up on a shelf.

Love, for me, is a commitment, a choice that one does make
a decision to be always giving, and rarely on the take
For when two hearts become entwined, they share a single soul
Two pieces of two persons join to become one whole

And when that love does fall apart, for reasons not understood,
the whole is shattered like a mirror, the pressure not withstood.
The pieces they are piled up and doled out one by one,
but neither gets their complete self, the magic's been undone.

And broken and tattered, sharp and jagged, our lives they must go on.
We seek love to mend our tattered soul and reveal our inner swan
But what we really seek is to love ourselves as we wish we really were
If we could truly understand that phrase, I think we'd all concur

So seek not to find companionship, seek not to be repaired
seek first to understand yourself and leave no piece unsnared.
Try to understand who you really are, and who you want to be
and live your life the way you want and let your spirit free.

I'm seeking out a companion for an evening stroll
What I might find while on my travels, challenges mind and soul
I rarely spend more than a moment in any single place
Like a weary wanderer, floating through time and space

Hot and Cold

You're as hot as lava, and as cool as ice.
You sit on my lap; it feels so nice.
I kiss you once; I kiss you twice
I place my hands between your thighs.

I kiss your neck and nibble your ear
I tell you that you're beautiful, dear.
You close your eyes and breathe in deep;
Across your stomach my fingers creep.

From your navel to your chest,
My teasing hands avoid your breast,
Up to your neck and along your jaw,
I turn your head with a gentle draw.

Our faces meet and we lock eyes,
The kiss is sweet and my body cries
To surrender all of me to you:
My mind. My body. My spirit, too.

The fire and passion we share together
Feel like they could just burn forever
But our bodies, they will never meet -
Our fire and passion are kept discrete.

Our lives are different - they're worlds apart.
You are too young, your life has yet to start.
I am an old man, compared to you.
If only I were still twenty two...

Then the dream of you I shared above
Could be more than a glimpse of love
And my fiery passion and carnal vice
Could find you hot as lava and cool as ice.

A thousand lives

I met an earthly angel today,
in a moment of fleeting glory.
In her presence, my breath is taken away
and my mind is challenged by her story.

A thousand lives, two thousand deaths,
four thousand smiles, six thousand breaths,
eight thousand years, ten thousand grains,
twelve thousand joys... but just one pain.

I see forever in her sky blue eyes,
the pillowy clouds of darkness rain.
I see forever in her smiling face,
her fear and solitude are not contained.

A thousand tears, two thousand sniffs,
four thousand sobs, six thousand gifts,
eight thousand frowns, ten thousand sets,
twelve thousand shouts... but just one regret

My mind is challenged by her story,
in her presence, my breath is taken away.
In a moment of fleeting glory,
I met an earthly angel today.

Reflections

Forwards and Backwards
Inside-out and Outside-in
Uptown to Downtown
Are you as bored as I am?
Am I as bored as you are?
Downtown to Uptown
In-sideout and Out-sidein
Backwards and Forwards

Lost at Sea

Where am I, where can I be?
It appears to me I am lost at sea.

I look around and see no land;
I find no trees, no beach, no sand.
I have no compass, the sky is bright;
Navigation by day more anguish than night
There are no stars to set my direction,
The water and clouds slave to strange convection.

Where am I, where can I be?
It appears to me I am lost at sea.

How did I get here, from where did I come?
How will I ever find my way home?
Where is home and how does it look?
Vague visions of a blue bungalow by a bubbling brook.
Or are these hallucinations, caused by lack of sleep?
Or hunger or dehydration or secrets I keep?

Where am I, where can I be?
It appears to me I am lost at sea.

My stomach rumbles with deepest desire
For red meat cooked upon an open fire.
With a sauce of mushroom and capers, perhaps a bit of tomato;
With a side of broccoli or corn, and a huge baked potato.
Accompanied by a bottle of the finest of wines,
A California Merlot, vintage 1969.

Where am I, where can I be?
It appears to me I am lost at sea.

A noise from afar snaps me back to attention,
Is it my rescue? It sounds like an engine...
How long have I been out here? One day, one month, one year?
From whence do they come? The source is not clear.
Do I need to be saved, is it something I want?
Do I get their attention, or hide, or what?

Where am I, where can I be?
It appears to me I am lost at sea.

It seems less a motor as swells the sound;
A buzzing, a clamor, ringing all around.
I wake to an alarm, 6:00 AM my watch reads;
Go back to sleep, to our dream, my mind pleads.
I open my eyes to see white clouds and blue sky,
Surrounded by water, I start to cry.

Where am I, where can I be?
It appears to me I am lost at sea.

Blind

The whole world is blind
Though all can see, the world is
Blind.  Except for me.

Response to Monday Poetry Prompt #9: To Nerd or Not To Nerd

I love the Big Bang Theory
I find the show quite cheery
With Rajesh, and Leonard
Penny, Sheldon, and Howard
The humor it never is dreary

Sheldon Cooper has no social skills
And he lives a life with no frills
Barry and the Kripke Killer
gave M.O.N.T.E quite the thriller
But his "Bazinga" gives me the chills

Leonard has half a clue
in all things he tries to do
but half a clue aint enough
for most of the stuff
us humans are apt to do.

You

Your eyes are a deep blue
The refreshing color of the water around me
Your hair flows exquisitely
The swells of the sea I swim in
Your skin is smooth and beautiful
The wet sand on the beach I stroll across
Your musical voice
The sound of the waves I love to hear
Your high aspirations
The gulls in flight looking down upon me
Your loving heart
The warm sun which makes me warm inside
Your kindness
The waves that give and take again
Your delicate touch
The light breeze that makes my skin tingle
Your wonderful scent,
The salt air overloading my senses.

Love, abstract

Is it really greed?
Blue - so seemed the ancient prophet.
If the eternal midnight ages
Why does wanton creature not shudder?

A dagger speaks amidst the islands;
And an organ deeply laughs.
He - an alien that awakens at night,
An envy sings inside the princess;

Professionally.

Paranoia

The spies who hate everyone
are still waiting for you, stupid.
They have dreadful eating habits,
and can't keep their hands off you.
A glass of wine would help now.
And you wonder why you've never noticed
that you're not getting any laughs.

Lessons

I'm learning to be happy with myself
And I'm learning to love my life
And I'm learning to love those around me
Not use them, when I need something
And I'm learning not to lie
And I'm learning not to exaggerate
And I'm learning (though it sometimes really hurts me)
Not to hide from the truth.
And I'm learning to smile
When I laugh
And I'm learning that it's much
Much easier to be myself

The First Day

The Lord, our God, said
"Let there be light"...
Instantly
My soul was freed from the darkness of confusion
And warmed by the light of understanding
My entire being became infused with an energy.
Like love - it made me happy
And like terror - it frightened me

... and the darkness and the light were
    the first day

Oak Barrels and Hamburgers

For several months we have been
 under your spell, smiling and
cooing at your sweet and loving
 kindness.

Your motivation still isn't clear -
 once thought to be pure,
 unadulterated.
 Admirable;

lately, however, you have been hateful,
 evil.
Exclusive

Together; Alone

My heart sought true and loving compassion,
my mind ached longingly to be understood,
my eternal search for respect is unending,
and my desire to be loved is insatiable.
My body yearns for the electric contact
of your masterful fingers, but I am alone

I need time to be myself, alone
with my thoughts. Your compassion
compels me, but I am left without contact.
I tell you my story. You said you understood -
that you didn't mind, your drive was insatiable
and our lovemaking sessions would be unending.

But we fought. The yelling, the screaming was unending,
You lied to me. I would have been better off alone.
Your appetite for destruction is insatiable;
You show little to no compassion,
but question why you are never understood
I tried to soothe you, but my contact

repulsed you, made your cringe. Your contact
is cold and hateful. Your spite unending
and hot as the sun. I understood
your perspective. You didn't want to be alone,
you didn't think you deserved compassion
and your desire to be loved was insatiable.

Our desire for each other is insatiable,
but neither of us can handle the contact
of the other. The most compassion-
ate outcome is to be separate. An unending
sentence of solitude. Forever alone
in a world that is only barely understood

by two people. And only two. If the world understood
how our insanity was normal, our insatiable
desires for each other require us to be alone
separate from each other, separated from contact
with the world, filled with an unending
desire and need for true compassion,

to be understood, to share compassion
and an insatiable desire for unending
solitude. Alone in the world, devoid of contact.
